Warm greetings to you all as we embark on another year of quality assurance and moderation with the Muka Tangata whānau. We hope you enjoyed the break in the festive season as much as we did. The Quality Assurance and Enhancement team are a ready to continue offering the top tier support you have all come to know us for.


In this newsletter we outline upcoming events and projects as well as other important information. You can view our National External Quality Assurance plan here, and our 2024 moderation calendar here. We are continuing to refine our new approach to quality assurance, and you can see where we are focusing our efforts in 2024 here. Thank you to those of you who have provided feedback.


As we continue to strengthen our relationships with you, we encourage you to provide feedback via the surveys linked in the Pānui section below. Your feedback helps us to best understand and respond to your needs. The Quality Assurance and Enhancement team are excited to get into our hui whakapūmau onsite and online visits, our new drop-in sessions, and getting our CMR review project underway in Quarter Two. Thank you all for your continued support.

Review of Muka Tangata Consent and Moderation Requirements


The Quality Assurance and Enhancement team is preparing to start a project to review the Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMRs) to ensure they are relevant and fit for purpose.


We are now asking education providers for your expression of interest to engage with us in this review. Please click here to register your interest. The expression of interest form will remain open until Friday 19 April 2024.

Q+A drop in sessions


We are trialing a new initiative to allow more opportunity for your teams to ask us questions and get feedback. Monthly online drop-in sessions will be held on the third Wednesday of each month, 1-1:30pm.

Hui whakapūmau enhancement visits


Our hui whakapūmau visits and online discussions are an important tool in our approach to moderation and quality assurance. They allow us to build whanaungatanga, mutual relationships, communication, and help improve outcomes for providers. These will continue throughout 2024. 


We have already reached out to those who we're hoping to visit this year to confirm dates. The team are excited to get our Quarter Two hui whakapūmau visits underway.

Unit Standard interpretations

Unit Standard interpretations are an interim measure to be applied until such time as the unit standard in question is reviewed in full. The Unit Standard interpretations are updated monthly and published on our website. There are currently 13 standard interpretations so far this year.


Workforce Development Plans (WDPs)

Our 14 industry-specific Workforce Development Plans were put online in 2023. We've been working on updating our roadmap actions and have begun work on Te Haumako, a Māori WDP for the food and fibre sector. View the WDPs.

All assessment resources need to be pre-moderated and approved by Muka Tangata prior to use. There is no cost for this service. Resources can be submitted to moderation@muktangata.nz
